...of me actually being employed. Sorry to have a whinge, but since finishing PGCE in 07 i find myself completely out of the loop. I think I am becoming increasingly unemployable!

I'm doing supply (when there is actually work going) but I have been told I shouldn't expect any longer term placements as schools generally want experienced teachers to slot in-fair enough.

*Sigh*

How do you get that elusive 'foot in the door'???

Anyway, back to Christmas cheer mode! Rolling Eyes

Hmmm...it's tough, isn't it? Could you move temporarily to get your NQT year over with? Somewhere where there is a higher chance of getting a job. I would do that if I were you. That way you'll have experience!

HI Delma, not heard from you in a while! Hope you are well apart from the job situation. Did you hear from BwD supply agency as they told me that they would try to get longer term placements as had NQT year to do, but I didn't get any but that was June time.

I will listen out for anything for you - hope you are ok x

It's always an option, Jog_on. I know it sounds pathetic, but all my family and friends are here and I would find moving away from them really difficult. I'm going to give it my all next year, really push myself (said I was going to do that this year and just ended up procrastinating!)

Hi Queenie, lovely to hear from you. I signed up with BwD supply, but they have only found me short term supply. They told a friend of mine that they are rarely able to find long term placements for NQTs because the schools don't want them.

A friend of mine has just been GIVEN a floating teacher job starting January-no interview, nothing. And she will still get released to apply for other jobs. She's allowed to attend staff meetings and is even involved in training days. I'm behind with CPD and my references are over a year old. Gah.

It's bloody hard work in this climate being able to find a job, isn't it?

I really think that you need to do what you have to to find a job to get your NQT year over with and then you'll feel much better about it...you can do supply after that til your heart's content!!! he he!

We've got jobs coming up (again!!!) and if you want to apply, I'll put a good word in for you! Smile

I'm sure others on here would do the same!

Hi Delma - havent heard from you in ages and glad you have found this forum!!!! So sorry you haven't found a job yet - something will turn up eventually for you.

I will be back in your situation come Easter as mine is just a temp job covering maternity but at least I will have done my nqt year - even so, I will be back on the supply list yet again.

will keep my ears open and let you know if anything round here turns up

Jog_on-what a lovely offer!I have no idea which area you live in though...

I'm going to really push myself in the new year-consider looking in other areas and make myself more known through supply. Someone I tutor with has offered to put in a good word for me at a school on an army barracks-swit swoo!

Sometimes I'm with the 'if it's meant to be, it's meant to be' school of thought. Hope everyone had a nice Christmas

Delma, 2009 is your year!!! The perfect job will be given to you this year so don't lose faith. That sounds good about the army barracks - would be different!

Thanks for your words of support Queenie. I really hope so!

I started looking at how I would go about planning from the new framework, as during my training we used the old framework. I actually had a mini panic attack. I have no idea where to start!

Why don't you go into a school for a week and see how the new framework is different, watch lessons and PPA time and get a feel for it??? I'm sure loads of people on here wouldn't mind helping you out in that way!

Hiya, that is a good idea Jog_on. Delma, why don;t you arrange maybe to do into school one day a week on a voluntary basis - this way you will get your foot in the door and on applications will look good. Then hopefully someone at the school might know someone in another and so on. Also will help you get an idea of new framework.

We are all getting used to it so don't worry about that! I find the maths easier to plan and happy to send you through some examples and to chat on msn xxx

Jog_on-that is a good idea! I did voluntary work before starting my PGCE, so it's worth a shot.
I intend to send speculative letters out next week to a few local schools in the hope of getting some supply work. I'm just trying to think how to word the covering letter-maybe mention that I'm particularly looking for longer term contracts. Hmmm.

Queenie-I have briefly looked at both the Num and Lit fwks, and I would agree that the Num looks a bit easier to plan. I might have to take you up on the offer of some help? Confused

In your covering letter you could mention that you would be willing to do maternity cover. I did maternity cover as an NQT and eventually got the permanent post. It's a good way of showing your skills over a longer period of time which means even if you don't get a permanent job, you would be able to get a reference from someone who has employed you for a reasonable amount of time.

look at harder to teach areas they always have more vacancies and often less choice Good luck
