out of interest what are Y2 teachers doing? Are they using L&S Phase 5 & 6 materials or they using Support for Spelling? Or both? I just wish the government would give a much more definite indication of what we all should be doing. It's very confusing for teachers at end of KS1 to know which to work from.

Hi all, thanks for the link as wasn't aware if it!

What happens when you are in a mixed class - last year I had yr 3/4 and did a mixture - in the end went off hamilton as a guide as they covered a lot of them in.

Now in yr 4/5 - want to doa  big focus on this. The school consultant said to do 5 session spelling over a few weeks -

ing & drop the e/ double letter

session 2– not main objective – just like starter- assess session 1 spelling rule (whiteboards)

session 3 – tricky words- eg ones always mis spelling in work- main objective

session 4 – not main objective starter- whiteboards – assess tricky words

session 5 not main objective – starter whiteboards – assess the lot! Dictated sentences/ make up silly sentences/show me!

I tried to fit this in when could, but still not sure what meant to be covering as you can;t fit in all of yr 4 and all of yr 5!!!! In the end we used lancashire must should could for each term and went from there - will this be ok? One thing that really worried me!

For my poor ability, everyday they are getting letters and sounds imput from TA so that should help them.

Just when I think I get my head round something, something else happens!

"Just when I think I get my head round something, something else happens! "  Too true.
I wonder what we'll have had to wrap our heads round by this time next year!  There's a cheering thought!

Is anyone doing a PowerPoint for Y6 Term 1? If not, I'll make a start on it sometime. Let me know.

Not a powerpoint (as someone else has already done that, thanks, myrtle I think) but an outline plan for Term 3 (i) that follows the Support for spelling idea.  It's nothing special, but I found others' examples have helped me, so maybe this will help someone else.

It starts by revising -ing and -ed (assuming that they've already done the straightforward ones in year 2 - this is ok with mine, but might not work for everyone - might need to do extra work first on meaning of 'verb' and 'past tense' etc) and then goes on to -le.

(When I first read it, I thought each session was supposed to be like a Letters and sounds lesson, with revise, teach, practise, assess in each session - only just realised it's one of these for each session.)

I know I said I'd do Y6 Term 1, but have delayed it as we are having some training on the document soon.

No worries...I reckon if people want it, they can do it themselves.

Let us know what happens at training please Smile

My training for this is middle of October.  Hoping to be able to get a hard copy of the document and the CD before then though to get my head round it a bit.   For the moment, am sticking to what we have rather than shake it up and then find I'm doing it wrong...   With any luck, should be using this from after half term with Y5 and 6 so could prob help out somwhere with a plan/powerpoint if any are needed for that.
