We had loads of errors in reading trollhula, filled in the forms and we are sending them back- don't mind when a child doesn't do it on the day but when they do and still get no credit it's frustrating as hell!

I used to read a lot on TES and post a little. This school year has been my most fulfilling ever and all consuming.
Thank you all for your words of advice on this. I will try to keep things in perspective but I can see the governors pondering over the graphs ,comparing them to last year.

Feeling much better than earlier

Trollhula,

I'm sure you're not 'getting it wrong'!  I hadn't had my writing results back this year yet, but felt exactly the same last year after some unpredicted results.  Didn't panic too much as was convinced they'd go up on re-marking-but they came back unchanged.
Convinced myself I couldn't level properly, even though i've always been moderated as spot on and had had no problem any other year!  Asked for some help this year, again to be hold my levelling was spot on and the tests had just been harshly marked.

are you me?

Just checked your location and I'm not in the North west of the north west so I can't be! I'm more north east of north east.Sitting in fog.

Hi Gertie Grumbles,

We very well in fact might be the same person, as like you got all results back today and got great results and value added to make up for last year disaster!  And my TA were spot on! Hurray.  Let's just hope this is the last year we'll have to go through it all though!

Got my maths back today and I am blown away.
The children did brilliantly. It feels good.Quite a contrast to the writing.
About to have a close look at the marking this evening in the peace of my kitchen.

Feeling depressed and about to go and assign sub-levels to see how much progress the kids have made in the last 2 years (when we are responsible for them!)  80% (thanks to the power of rounding!) L4+ and 38% L5+ - aspirational targets were something like 96% and 50%!!!!  Another depressing year for the Maths department!!!!! Sad

Did a bit of sublevelling with the writing and it doesn't look too bad but for some individuals there are red numbers.
75% level 5 in maths. 5% level 3.Left overs got 4.
Not worked out English progress but it is a bit sad there.
Science is fine apart from one little bod who's parents are going to be disappointed.

Putting the numbers on the tracking is calming me down but I must get the writing scripts out to have a look.

Bit gutted with writing, although HT says upward trend!
77% L 4 + in writing
25% L5 writing

However,  have 5 chn 1 mark off L5 in writing and 3 chn 1 mark off for L4!

2 / 5 of my target chn got L4 in writing and 3 1 mark off.

So close, but so far.  At least I got target group right, just didnt do it!!  Need to have a look at the papers.  Apparently, value added good??

I just dont get data, just disapponited with the number of borderlines!

What are you going to do about the borderlines?

I am in a similar position  and have 5 I think with the upper mark on the threshold. About to reread but not too sure if I need someone else to look at them alongside me.Small school with only me in Yr5/6.Head has little experience of KS 2.

Not sure!!
Get to the point where I really couldnt care!  My class have worked so bloody hard this year so know I should get them what they deserve.  Need to have a good look at papers as some abnormalities with certain chn.  However, worried I may find mrks that really arent there!
Grrrrrr!!

I'm getting more and more depressed the more I look into it!

Only 40% reached or exceeded their (aspirational) target, and only 78% made 2 whole levels across the whole key stage.

Hasn't helped we had 6 pupils disapplied for Maths and 3 absent!!!

Can I join in with all the depressed people?

Why do we always focus on the negatives? We got all of ours back today, the Science and Maths were fantastic, reading brilliant but writing really dire. Writing has pulled overall English down so that we have not met our %L5 target.

So I'm sitting here thinking about the writing results, wondering what went wrong, rather than enjoying all the other brilliant results.  Sad

Unfortunately I'm only interested in the Maths, think that the English was good, but I'm not sure what they got, no Science yet!

Our English came back today and we are gutted - for the same reason. A good year group that should have had loads of level 5s - and did, in Maths and Science - but only 53% level 4 and above in writing! Despite our continued assessments! (Using Ros Wilson, previous Sats grids and moderation)

We are going to send the lot back.

Otherwise - what do we do? We thought we were well-trained and good at assessing writing. Look at at a piece and know at a glance if it is 3 - 4  -5 - and even the a, b and c!!!!

Sad Same here, got them back today. gutted.
