| You also know that 6 years of teaching have been absorbed by them before you got them - how is it your fault?... |

For those wanting the thresholds, not sure why you need to 'work them out' they're on the QCA website _________________ www.trinityeducational.co.uk |

We've not had any back yet
You'd think a marker (or 3!) would be happy to get rid of so many scripts from one school! _________________ www.trinityeducational.co.uk |

That's got me thinking I wonder if we were the largest cohort of Yr 6s from a single school? We have 181 pupils in Yr 6 - anyone know of any schools with more Yr 6's? _________________ www.trinityeducational.co.uk |

| We got our maths yesterday and science today. Just a couple missed out, but not too bad. As others have said it is the writing I'm not looking forward to! |

| We've sent back 2 or 3 before, JT, usually don't have many more than 10 in a cohort so can't really pick 10 to send back. Might be worth checking. |

We've only got science back so far- quite pleased although two of mine whom I would normally expect to be a mid level 4 missed the 4 by 2 marks. _________________ The best thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. (Oscar Wilde).

Been up for hours.Feel very similar to Juliateacher.I have solid level 5 writers and as far as I am aware the pieces they did are fantastic. One girl has beeb assessed as level 5 on every piece since Year 4 and got a 4.Reading results are amazing so they pull the total scores up.We feel harshly marked but not sure what to do next really.Have not slept. _________________ Relaxed and ready to learn. |

Stick with it everyone, we got ours back yesterday and were gutted. Our most talented writer scored a low 4. Looked at her paper and the marking is quite simply disgusting. To be honest I don't think he/she has even looked at the work. She scored 2 for SSP!!!!!! Ridiculous. Spent last night filling in forms to send them back!
As a marker myself I find it really hard to deal with the fact that quite obviously not everyone pours over making sure the kids get what they deserve like most of us do!!!
Wouldnt have been so bad if our maths scores hadn't been added up incorrectly too! So 8 children have level 3 when in fact if you actually include paper b scores they are level 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ 23 sleeps until Christmas!!!!!

The funniest thing is we worked with Pete Halsall from Andrell this year and he picked out said pupil as one of the best writers he had seen! _________________ 23 sleeps until Christmas!!!!!

Reading this is making me feel so much better. The children I teach are delightful, hard working and were well prepared. Our SIP came to observer and discuss literacy with them and was amazed. The ability is not reflected in these levels.I feel a bit of a fool as the SIP has sent advisorsetc to see how I teach writing and asked me to help another school.Like you JT I expect the folks from county who visited at the start of the term will be interested.Last year I had 85% level 5.This years group are stronger and the % level 5's is much less.
The bottom end seem reasonable with the child who required a transcript geting a 4.
I have not sent scripts back before but perhaps I will consider it now.
Hey Ho
I will relax a bit now I know others are in the same boat.

From the moment I read the prompt this year I thought it would end up with more kids getting over the L4 threshold but fewer L5s. The tasks were clearly targetted at that L3/4 threshold and my L5 writers were really bored by it.
Through my marking I've read very few really exceptional pieces, but lots and lots of solid 4s some of which have probably come from L5 writers let down by a poor task.
Still not got my English back, though, so getting worried now!! |

I think you've hit the nail on the head Rainbow. My (only) level 5 pupil said 'it's hard to write well about a trainer for 45 mins!!
I felt sorry for her, as she is very hard on herself and she felt she hadn't done herself justice.
She is a very girly girl, and this task was more suited to the boys, imho!!! |

I know what you mean Rainbow, but from our scripts it seems that the marker was expecting degree level sentence construction!
This is the opening line for one of them-
Dear Sir,
Over the past week I have had the pleasure of trialling your aptly named Speedz sports shoe. Consequently, I would like to take up a moment of your time to provide you with some feedback which may assist you in making these shoes the market leader.......

Having read this not hopeful for our ENglish and therefore floor target english and maths!!
JT you cant be sacked because a small cohort of pupils didnt get good scores and as said its never just the Y6 teacher responsible.
It might be that if LA are concerned about your schools score that they would want to meet with you as Y6 teacher and more importantly English leader to discuss what has happened, this obviously includes senior team but you will have the ground level information. LA gets hammered in same way school does from above so they will just be covering themselves and makign sure they know whats happening and whether they need to address this with support |
