Have just read Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman and then Yesterday's Sun by Amanda Brooke. Really enjoyed both of them.

Having a kindle to download cheep books has really widened the range of books I'm reading. I used to read mainly chick lit before. Don't know if anyone else finds this?

I found Yesterdays Sun strange!
I just read Sweeping Glass by Carolyn Wall. Really liked it although it jumps around a lot.
What to read next?!

So pleased to see that someone else has read and enjoyed Pigeon English, cornflake girl.

I have read more rubbish since getting Kindle. Tried a Pru Leith last week. What a load of twaddle.

Just finished Cold Season by Alison Littlewood. Not good, found it bizarre. Kept reading to see if it would get better but it didn't! Very disjointed story.

I've just read "The Paris Wife" which is about Ernest Hemingway's first wife. It was very good without being addictive (a good thing for me as it meant I could read it in term time).

Have just started and really enjoying 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society' by Mary Ann Shaffer.
Humorous and lovely. A 'feel good' read!

I loved it as well I like reading books told in letters you get different characters point of view in their own words. I did quite a lot of looking things up especially literary references. The story has to be pieced together which makes it interesting as well.

I've just read "Breaking the Silence" about a little girl who is mute after her dad shoots himself. All sorts of secrets get untangled in the aftermath. I can't decide if I liked it or not. It was a page-turner and parts were very disturbing. The jury's still out. If anyone else has read it let me know what you think.

I haven't heard of that before but it sounds like it might be a bit harrowing.

I'm reading Men I've loved Before by Adele Parks. Nice, light, chick lit for term time.

Just finished The Widows Tale by Mick Jackson, was really good. The story of a widow coming to terms with the death of her hubby. Not an easy subject but written very well, esp as author is male writing as the widow.

What next?

Have you read Jonathan Tropper? How To Talk to a a Widower  would give a different perspective.  All his books are good though.

The Good Father by Noah Hawley was really really good. About a son who allegedly shoots a presidential candidate + how his dad comes to terms with it. Very good read.

Just finished The Other Child by Charlotte Link, thriller set in Scarborough even though it is translated from German! Not wonderful but good twist.
Am now on The Anniversary Man by RJ Ellory and hooked straightaway!

Just finishing off The Tennis Party by Madeleine Wickham. Downloaded Tideline (from the Richard and Judy list) to be my next read.

The Anniversary Man was very good, and just finished Saints of New York also by RJ Ellory. Gruesome but unputdownable!
