Threshold

I'm in my 8th year of teaching so I think I can now apply for threshold. My HT has given me no info on this and my professional development partner has been teaching for less time than me and has been fast tracked to middle management so probably isn't much help either.

I've looked online and it seems like the application process is changing at the moment. Another teacher reckons HT won't bring it up as he's too busy trying to save money!

Any help on this would be great.

When you have reached M6 you only have to do 1 year at that pay scale before you are entitled to go through the threshold. The changes to the process relate to the evidence you might call upon. If you have been performance managed (and it is a legal right you have) then that should be used as the primary evidence for going through the threshold. If your line manager HAS NOT indicated you shouldn't then YOU SHOULD! It is for the HT now to identify why you shouldn't as much as you should!

I'd ask him for the forms and guidance to see what his reaction is Wink

Thanks for that. I will be sure to ask him and will let you know what happens. Is it up to me to collect evidence or should he be helping me?

You should have your own evidence base to pull on and refer to that in your form. However, you can refer to PM observations and other observations you have had, and any other PM evidence that may have been collected (you should have a copy of this as well as your HT). Other than that it is the form that is the basis of your evidence.

I asked HT for the forums and I said I didn't know I could have applied at least a year ago. His response was 'you girls' and to raise his eyebrows. Basically meaning that I'm not the only one of the female staff to apply late and how hopeless are we!

Give him a slap!  Very Happy Then raise your eyebrows as if to go 'you men'. Laughing

My HT seemed surprised that I applied for threshold in July at the end of my second year of M6.  He still hasn't let me know - don't thinkit is because he is a man, more because he is scared of the bursar.  So much for the 31 Oct date.
I talked to the bursar the other day, she didn't know I had applied.  There is a possibility that  the pay review subcommittee will be convened on Weds 10 Dec.  I am not bating my breath waiting.  My perf manager says that I deserve it and should have no prob.  I look forward to the back pay - but I guess won't get interest on it!

Spoke to HT today and he said pay review cmttee meeting is tomorrow.
so my next question is....assuming I get threshold which I applied for at the end of my second M6 year, when can I apply for threshold 2?  Only after I have gone through threshold 1?  I applied in July 08, so 2nd M6 year = 07/08.  Does my second M6 year count as my first year on threshold 1?
Don't think I am phrasing this very clearly, will look forward to hearing from anyone who thinks they can interpret my babble AND answer the question.

If you applied last July then they are duty bound to backdate it to September 2007. This means THIS year is your second year so you should be allowed to go up to UPS2 all things being in order (i.e. no sustantive change in ability/role since going through to UPS1) at the end of this academic year!

Woo hoo. Thanks MP.
That will be interesting to go for!  (Given our school and leadership and financial management.)
