subject skills for foundation subjects

Know this was something we did lots on in yahoo group and our grids are in the creative room on here now. Was just wondering if anyone had moved forward with this in any different way. As we develop our new topics we need to ensure lot more focus on literacy and numeracy skills but when other areas are being taught it should be about skills not content.  Was thinking maybe if we could link this into ongoing reports for parents making final term less of an onerous task and making reports more relevant to learning rather than coverage and content that would be even better
Anyone cracked this?

We have been using the Chris Quigley skills this year to plan the skills content of the foundation subjects - have felt this has meant we are not so bogged down with content - wouldn't say we've cracked it but we are getting there - using the skills statements definitely helps with report writing though.

do you assess against these? do you have way to ensure coverage of skills? how do you keep staff focused on skills?

Some subject managers have begun to use the statements to formulate assessment sheets but to be honest we don't really do formal assessments of foundation subjects at KS1 at the mo.

As this is the first year we have used the CQ skills each year group has recorded which skills we have taught un each unit so that subj managers have a record of coverage (only for this year obviously - so may need to make some changes for next year).

We have a planning sheet for medium term plans which for each subject area says 'WHAT' are you teaching and it is here we copy the skills as listed in the CQ booklet.
