Cleaning the house!!
Followed by trying to decide what to do with my Year 6 class who on last week's performance are working at approxiamtely year 3 level ( apart from a few shining lights). Last week's numeracy showed an inabilty to subtract 2 two digit numbers accurately; add 2 three digit numbers accurately; multiply or divide by 10, 100 or 1000 or to apply that skill to metric conversions. In literacy they clearly can't use capital letters; write sentences that make sense or write in a consistent tense (past would have been lovely for biographies); can't use any connective other than 'and'. I exclude my SEN from this as they are working at Year 2 level but they can use capital letters - Hurrah! Just don't know what to do next!

I think my daughters have forgotten what colour their carpets are hcuks ! The weather here is very wet and windy - not a day for venturing outdoors but i do need to brave it to the local shop for milk.

I'm going to try to finish lit and French planning. Looks as though we'll be going over to DH's family as his nan's house has been broken into. She has lived on her own since his Grandad died two years ago!

Washing to catch up from the hol, school stuff to catch up from the hol and I fancy cooking something nice for tea so will be looking in the cookbooks for something different to try. Then a wonderful evening with Mr Pickle who I missed terribly and am very glad to be back with.

Ah thats nice pickle!
Absolutely dreadful day here. So wild and wet and windy! So dark too - downside of little cutesy cottages with little windows. I plan to do comforting things like make soup, pots of coffee, snuggle under a blanket, read, watch an old movie etc.

Apart from coffee, sounds like a perfect day SH.
Weather is horrendous here as well- a stay at home day definitely! MTV2 on telly, looking through christmas catalogues to finalise my shopping list for pressies, and a lot of tidying up!

I agree, your day sounds lovely SH. I like watching old black and white films on wet and windy weekend afternoons! As for today, most of my planning is done so I'm going to enjoy my family ~ we have a long and VERY busy half term ahead of us.

Just finished clearing up from last night's dinner party - now laughing at OH's hangover!!!!! Next job - and I can put it off no longer - is to plan a lesson for Tuesday when the whole school is doing peer observations, to be judged by OFSTED criteria. My observer is AST for Teaching and Learning, so delivers lessons to children she doesn't now in front of loads of people all the time and I am scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can we swap days SH?

Had quite a busy morning - up early, put lunch on, picked daughter up from station, led service at church etc.
Hoping for a much quieter afternoon. Weather wet and windy here too so feels like a day for pulling up the drawbridge. Smallholder's plan sounds like a good one to me.
Teacher Day tomorrow so that should be a fairly gentle start.

I'm getting into school for 7am tomorrow - I will need that long to set up, get sorted and back to normal mode in school before the kids come in!!

Just got back from church where the builders had disturbed a wasps nest so spent the entire dodging wasps, not very restful!
OH is cooking lunch and I just need to get my head around what my year group partner has planned for literacy.
And do the ironing, I'm still trying to catch up from 2 weeks ago.

PP - I am planning a back to basics week which roughly looks like this:
Literacy Monday - normal spellings ( the one thing they can do!!) and feedback on last week's writing
Tuesday: punctuation - capital letters, commas
Wednesday punctuation - direct speech
THursday - sentence openers
Friday - connectives
In theory this should all be revision - i need to find time for apostrophes too.
Numeracy - Monday - addition
Tuesday subtraction
Wednesday multiplication
Thursday division
Friday - free depending on how previous days go
Overall aim is to make sure we have a writen method that works. Will do related mental activities too.
PP - was it you who,a few weeks ago were musing on doing something in Numeracy to do with basics over a the next half term? what did you decide?

It was indeed. We are a one form entry and so for maths we are combining the years 5 and 6. The level 2's will be taught by TA's- focusing on 4 rules and mental strategies ( following the BEAM booster TA book but planned by me) The level 3A-5 (2 will be led by me on a Tues, Wed, Thurs for number working on 4 rules and using and applying in every lesson. Within that group I will have the HT, Me, Year 5 teacher. After the main session the kids will be divided into smaller groups and will be targeted by a particular teacher in relation to what has been taught. We come back together for the plenary. On Monday and a Friday DH and shape and measure etc wil be taught. Just planning now, I cn send you a copy if you fancy?

That sounds great PP. You have loads of support. We are single entry too; My Wave 3 children are taken out by a TA 3 times a week (I plan from Wave 3 materials) but the rest are with me on my own. I have 4 children working at level 4 who should get to level 5 but the rest are dire and seem to rely on copying from each other erroneously. I'll pm you my email. Thanks for sharing.
