Redcurrant glut!!Has anyone got any ideas for redcurrants apart from redcurrant jelly? We have loads of redcurrants in the freezer from last year and have even more this year. I have made jelly and shoved some in various desserts eg summer pudding but we still have loads. Thanks

I put them in jam, I make a mixed one that I call 'Jumbleberry' which consists of redcurrants, blackberries and raspberries. At the moment I have fresh redcurrants every morning mixed in my cereal and sometimes I have them with yoghurt as a snack later in the day. I have also made redcurrant and apple chutney in the past. We have made wine in previous years, but found it too sharp! These days I am more relaxed about them and use what I want and then let the bird have the rest.

Thanks smallholder. We've left the birds their share - any that ripen whilst we are on hols!

How about putting them in a 'streusel' type cake. They do this a lot in Germany - usually a sponge base, then a layer of fruit (in this case your redcurrants) and a crumble type topping. Bit like a date slice but more cakey. Or just eat them cos they're yummy!!!
