I recommend "Half of a yellow sun". Took me through a mass of emotions and was set in Nigeria, a country I know little about.

Broken by Daniel Clay- a modern day Too Kill a Mockingbird type story, that got me really thinking as both a parent and teacher about modern society.

Shantaram - Gregory Roberts
This is a long book bit I couldn't wait to turn the page. It is set in India and I cried a couple of times whilst reading this.

Just finished The Alexandria Link by Steve Berry - about the legendary library of Alexandria which vanished without trace fifteen hundrend years ago and if found would have grace consequences for world power today.

I will recommend 'Digging to America' by Anne Tyler. On the surface looks an easy read but it is so wise. It starts with the adoption of a couple of babies from Korea into American families, one family American born and bred, the other with Iranian heritage. It is funny and moving and full of observations on acceptance, belonging and the sense of feeling apart from things that we all feel at times. A book about families and friends everywhere.

One of my few keepers from books I've read in the last year is Burnt Shadows by Kamila Shamsie. It
begins in Nagasaki at the end of World War II, and ends shortly after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. It's a book that I didn't want to end and I often find myself thinking about it.

Hunting and Gathering by Anna Gavalda
I recently read it again after seeing the movie. The movie was good but left out so much i had to reread the book to get the depth and to remember the details of the original story. The movie was good for the setting.

Well - usually read just rubbish really as only get time in the hols, but need a book for Easter. I have looked at Burnt Shadows on amazon but I don't know if it will be a bit 'deep' for me. Is it an easy read? I know this sounds shallow, but I have enough heavy stuff that I have to read!

Burnt shadows is a brilliant read gorgeous. Not deep but a well woven story. I read it fairly quickly as it's a page turner. The Room is another good book.

just finished " Started Early , took my dog" really enjoyed it . about repercussions of events from the 70's involving murder, children and police .
I like the way Kate Atkinson writes and would recommend most of hers

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, haven't seen the movie but found the book very disturbing but oddly compelling.
