Rainbow fish

I know there are loads of lovely ideas for using this book on the TES but I am losing the will to live trying to wait for the pages to load as I search!
So Please can you share any great things you've done with this before I throw something at my pc!
So far - we've acted out the story, drawn a cartoon version, brainstormed the character of the fish at the beginning and end. Next week I plan to write an alternative version based on a boy with beautiful marbles who won't share them. It's more this week' s immersion in the text type that I'm struggling for ideas.
Thank you everyone.

Thanks guys - haven't seen that kented site it's great!

I know what you mean about TES its frustrating, i did a little trawl and copied a few bits here for you including link to all the resources so at least you can get to that point quicker and then see which might be worth downloading

Although I'm currently in Year 1 we did a lot of work on The Rainbow Fish at beginning of the year. In a similar way to the lovely ideas suggested by the previous poster, we created a huge Rainbow Fish linked in with PSHCE/friendship/being special. We had a circle time thinking about everyone in our class and all the different ways they were special and then each child wrote out some lovely thoughts about another person in the class on a scale, coloured/decorated it and we made a huge Rainbow Fish. We also linked it into art and made a class underwater scene and puppets of the characters and children retold the story in small roleplay groups. We  made ocean drums using plastic cups and dried peas and then used them to accompany a whole class poem about the Rainbow Fish. We thought about what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story.... and then had a go at retelling each part over three days on a fish shaped template that I then hole punched to create a story necklace that hung on the wall decorated with lengths of crepe, foil and tissue to make a mini underwater world. You may even like to have a go at writing a letter to the Rainbow Fish and have him reply to the class!!! You may like to link it in to non fiction and make a little book about different animals under the sea. We also looked at real Rainbow Fish together and then linked it into to caring for a fish and writing simple instructions on what you need to take good c

I'm going to do a Rainbow Fish topic in the 1st week in y1. Here are some of my ideas:

write their good qualities on scales - to stick onto big rainbow fish

design a new pattern

fish for sounds - make CVC words

fish for numbers - add them together

paint a fish & add a silver scale

write what he could/should do?

retell the story in a comic strip

write how he feels onto a fish shape

are of a pet fish. We made min zig zag manuals.tog 22/08/2008 at 18:19

Sparklebox has a Rainbow Fish pack  if you haven't already seen it.

We had an underwater role-play area (piece of blue curtain hanging up, some Ikea finger puppets for fish, a few pebbles, waterweed etc)

You could make an outdoor "river" too just with chalk, or more elaborate if there's time.

PSE idea - at the start of the day you give someone the Special Silver Scale, they then have to give it to someone else who is helpful/kind to them, who then gives it to someone else etc, stop every now and then to talk about this (and make sure whoever has it hasn't forgotten!) - I didn't think this would work with my Y1s, I thought whoever had it would keep it, but they did it really well.

Rainbow Fish
(tune: Frere Jacques)

Rainbow fish, rainbow fish,
In the sea, in the sea.
A-splishing and a-splashing,
A-splishing and a-splashing,
Look at me,
Look at me!
