Poetry KS1

Can anyone give me any inspiration for teaching poetry to Y1? I don't like the framework unit (using the senses) so would like to move away from it a little. My topic at the moment is light and dark and after next week I could use Christmas things but could do with a starting point for next week if there are any inspired literacy people among you!

What about this one?

On a dark, dark, night
In a dark, dark wood
In a dark, dark house
In a dark, dark room
In a dark, dark cupboard
On a dark, dark shelf
In a dark, dark box
There was a GHOST!

You could take this anywhere, change the setting, the adjective, the object with something in.
Could then change it to write a Christmas poem.

On a dark, dark, night
In a dark dark town
In a dark, dark street
In a bright, bright stable
In a bright, bright manger
On a soft, soft blanket
There was a BABY!

Or something!  Off for wine!!!!!!!!!

I have taken in a fancy box, then opened it to show the contents.
In my magic box
I can see ...
I can hear ...

Children came up great ideas for their magic box poems.

Thank you! My class would love either of those ideas, especially as they love funnybones for the dark dark house. Either poems would be lovely for introducing adjectives.
