Plums in sloe gin

Halve some plums, about 12, and take out stones. Put in earthenware dish with lid. Sprinkle on 4 desert spoons of sloe gin. Bake for about 20 mins. Cool for a little while. Eat with greek yoghurt or ice cream and maybe a crumbly oaty biscuit if you were being really decadent! So easy so yummy!

You could use red wine, or port or cassis if you don't have sloe gin about your person - just so happens I have several bottles in my cupboard!

Do you mean you don't like it - or you haven't had sloe gin before?

Had to look up sloe gin. Didn't know sloes were a fruit. is this the recipe you use. I like the second step. Drink half a bottle of the gin  to make room for the sloes.   Very Happy

Sloe Gin
Pick your sloes from blackthorn hedges in October or November when they are most ripe - probably after the first frosts.
Take a litre bottle of gin, and drink half a litre

Cut or prick the sloes and drop into the half-empty bottle so that they displace the remaining gin to near the top.
Add one wine goblet of sugar (approx 150g).
All you have to do now is turn or agitate the bottle daily for a week, then weekly for a month or two ... by which time it will be ready to drink (but it is really best kept until the next winter).

And i haven't had any now i know what it is and I don't think i have even had ordinary gin either.  Rolling Eyes

Yes thats right Tui - I make it every year we have sloes on the smallholding. They are sour when raw but when steeped in gin and sugar they turn it into a really nice warming deep pink sweet tot for the winter! I keep mine for 2 years before I drink it - its so mature and syrupy then - lovely. Thats waht I put on my plums. They are of course the same family of fruit so go really well together. I make my sloe gin for medicinal purposes!
