People with Y3 experienceAfter your Yr 3 children do their optional SATs do you go through the paper with children so that they can see what they could do and what they need to learn how to do?

Yes, we do all the oprionals and go through each one to agree targets. You might download one of the analysis excel docs to identify any particular strands which are stronger or need to be addressed as well. These will help inform planning or next teacher.

A mixture. My lower abilities do the test with an adult. We support and teach if necessary as they go along but make a note on the paper so that no mark is given.
With the others I might put groups together of children who all failed on a certain question, or I might do short whole class sessions on questions the majority found difficult or plan a lesson to revisit an area that is clearly weak.
Mostly though I just make a note as to what I need to cover in greater depth next year, as children don't generally seem to respond well to going over questions they've done before.

I'm year 4 and we don't. As teachers we just use the analysis to identify future targets and planning, that way I guess we can do it in more depth than if you just went through the paper and spent 5 mins showing them a subtraction Q, 5 mins on a time problem, 5 mins on fractions. Quite boring too, not sure my class would cope with going through the test, much rather pick up targets then find engaging ways to teach it.

It depends, I do if a significant amount got particular questions wrong however it just depends really. I might do this time as when I have done that with mental maths it has helped them to understand what the question was e.g confusion with what "total" means

How many of you would and wouldn't share the outcome of a formal assessment like this with the pupil?
I've made my own QLA sheets as I ameded the tests slightly because our curriculum is slightly different - these will be a revelation to the staff, and they will be a hard sell to view them as something constructive to inform their future teaching! It's helped clarify for me that certain teachers are weaker than others too!

I've done different things with QLA in the past. Teachers in my current school use optional tests in May to decide what to focus on for the rest of the year. I've also used it in the past to decide on targets for the next year or for the focus for CPD if there are common themes.
