Non chronological reports

Hi, I am not doing the non chrono reports for SATs (year 2) but I am wanting to do this for my class in the next few weeks. Having a bit of trouble with the planning had a look on hamilton and click teaching and dont like their examples. Kind of left it to the last minute to plan, had a sick baby and husband in the last 2 weeks and havnt had much time for planning! Does anyone have any good websites that could point me in the right direction for this unit or examples of planning?
Thanks

Do you want to do it on the theme of nightime? If so then there are lots of resources on climb and cheekymonkeys, which have examples of non-chronological reports for night time animals. I found that when we did it, it was best to break it down into sections. We looked at reports on the first day and decided on their features (creating a success criteria) and then we brainstormed the theme of night time. After the brainstorm, we grouped our ideas into sections e,g underlined all the things to do with animals in green, all the things to do with people who work at night in red etc...this then led on to the next lesson where we looked at sub-headings. Then from here we made a plan using the sub headings and bullet points of key information we could incude in our report. Then we went on to discuss paragraphs etc. I have the planning somewhere if u leave your email address as i have no idea how to upload here!

Thanks for the mention but I feel I should point out that I was "Climb" for the first three years until the finances took a big knock so, for the last couple of years I've been me and I'm afraid Climb no longer gets all proceeds .

Thanks for the mention though Smile

Hi, thank you for your response. I am focusing on nocturnal animals in preparation for the upconming SATS. Argh! I was also wondering if anyone could recommend any big books on bats, hedgehogs or owls?
tui

Owl Babies might be a bit young but The Owl who was scared of the dark is good,. Not a big book though. Stellaluna is a lovely story about a bat.
Bats in the Library is great as well.

I also link it in to the book 'The owl who was afraid of the dark'.
