My class are so gullible!

My yr 2 class are doing a topic on superheroes so as part of our science work I told them that my friend, Mrs Incredible, had been to see me and told me about a problem she had with her tights ripping when she stretched.  We then planned and carried out an investigation into which new tights would be the stretchiest for her.  At the end of the lesson my TA went out of the room and rang me on my phone.  I pretended to be talking to Mrs I and invited her over for tea to discuss new tights.  My class believed me!!!!!  I love infants! Very Happy

Lovely!
When I left my last job one of the Y6 girls said she would always remember when David Beckham phoned me when she was in Y4.

That's lovely.

Did something similar on teaching practice - funnily enough with Year 2 as well.  We went on a 'Gruffalo Hunt' -  we received a note from one of the other teachers to say they had seen something odd out their window - could we go and investigate.  The children 'found' several Gruffalo items and one child actually believed that he had 'seen' it just before it vanished round another corner!

Fab! I love infants too. It makes teaching so much fun.

Years ago on teaching practice in Nelson, I showed a year 2 class of reluctant writers a letter from Gertie Witch who had crashed her broomstick into a hole on Pendle Hill and needed help with ideas on how to get out.  The class were a little sceptical until the brightest boy in the class ran to the window and looked at Pendle in the far distance.  He shouted "Yes Miss, it's true...I can see her legs sticking out!"  The whole class were hooked after that Very Happy

One of our KS1 classes has been doing a space project and regulary receiving notes from an 'alien' who visits at night.  The notes are in mirror writing and they have a space station where they can go and use mirrors to try to decode the messages.  Our caretaker has been playing along wonderfully with hints of mysterious noises at night etc.  They're totally hooked.  KS1 would drive me mad, but I wouldn't be able to get away with that in Year 5 and 6!
smallholder

When I was deputy I did an assembly ( about team work) when ofsted were in. It was a story with all sorts of props in a suitcase and  audience participation - just my sort of thing. It took place on an imaginary smallholding where things were going wrong (funnily enough). The sun grumbled about the rain and the rain grumbled about the sun and the smallholder kept going away and the plants kept dying.

It had lots of repetition in it so that the kids could see a pattern and I knew it was going well when at one point in the story I said and you know what happens next don't you?....and the blooming ofsted inspector nodded her head along with the children! They were in the palm of my hand!

Anyway unbeknown to everyone else, staff included, before the assembly had started I had got a colleague to hide in the cupboard with a microphone and a script I had written for her. I had put the 'echo' on the microphone on full.

At the point in the story when the characters almost come to blows. I gave the right cue and this great voice boomed out of our surround speakers 'Oy you lot!' Stop fighting! There was a great gasp from the audience, who could only see me at the front.

The voice echoed round the room telling them off for not showing teamwork, understanding etc. In a moments inspiration (!) I lifted my eyes slightly upwards and suddenly kids of all ages ( we are KS2-4) were standing up gazing in wonder at the heavens!

It was a magical moment. One I shall never forget. Ofsted sang the praises of the quality of our assemblies in their report and it got back to our LEA who wrote and congratulated us - saying they heard that the voice of God was on our side!

Nice one SH!
I've spent my entire working life in either foundation or KS1 and I wouldn't swap it for the world!

Love your story, SH.

Fab assembly SH.
I think that although KS2 won't necessarily believe you, they will play along and you can have lots of fun with it. My Y4s became detectives when someone stole a cookie from the cookie jar. They were quizzing people all over school. Each day a new message would arrive from the culprit so that they could narrow down the suspects. They were horrified to find out the DH was the thief!

Sounds great SH!

What great imaginations you all have.  Lovely stories from CQ, SH, ILM Smile

Dunno about KS2 not believing you.   I was out at a sports event the other day and there was a boat in a field partway up  a hill.   Having had 2 weeks of almost solid rain, I joked with a few of my Y6s that the weather must have been really bad here for the lake to have got that high and left the boat stuck up there.   There were some amazed looks before I burst out laughing and they realised they'd been had!
