Meeting the Parents & Home VisitsHi everyone!!! Oh look another post from jennypest.....(I guess you will be seeing a few of these around now i have a job )
We are holding an infomation night for parents in the next few weeks for the new nursery class children and this will be led by the existing FS Co-Ordinator but as the new teacher I obviously will have an input, I just wondered what kinds of things should I be looking to inform parents about, other than general routine, settling in period, what we teach, how they can help, general school rules & expectations etc...
Also, I will be conducting the home visits from June onwards and have some experience of this in the past, although if somebody (ANYBODY!) could shed some light of what you do and such this would be most appreciated!!

Sorry I can't say anything about home visits. I have never done one and I would wary about going alone to most of our kids homes. It could be very informative though!
Your ideas about the parents evening sounds fine.

In the past when I have done home visits, I went with the nursery nurse. I did the admin stuff with the parent and my nursey nurse played with the child with a bag of toys and games we brought from nursery, afterwards making brief notes about holding pencil etc. Then we would both have our photo taken with the child to send on before they start school, showed them photos of the nursery and left an info booklet for the child to stick photos in, draw pictures in etc to bring the day they started nursery. Most of them do which is great as it helps them to settle in. I also sent out postcards the week before they were due to start saying I was really looking forward to them starting nursery etc.
Enjoy the home visits, they are a fab opportunity to relax with the parents. Although one I went to you could see fleas jumping all over the living room!

Sounds good magpie. It would be interesting to see the children's homes. We have a preschool literacy group 2 afternoons a week so the children come for that and get used to me and the 2 teacher aides who help wit hit. They also come for the morning on those days in my class in the month before they start school. because they start on their birthdays there is only one or two visiting at a time. i am not sure how i would cope if they started on masse like your system!
