Medium Term PlansI am moving to a school where there is little (or no) planning. Certainly there is little communication between Key Stages or even year groups so I am not sure how progression is achieved or monitored at the moment.
My job initially is to get MTPs in place. Obviously these need to be useful not just filed away somewhere. At the moment I've got Learning objectives, Activities, Differentiation, Cross Curricular links, Resources and Assessment opportunities. If you wouldn't mind sharing I'd like to know what other people put on their MTPs and is everything useful? What would you like to see on MTPs? I've seen web links but do these change too quickly to put them on?
Thanks

I also include any key vocabulary and key questions on mine.

Onto my MTP I put anything that I think might be useful to me if I have to teach it again!
Have I understood correctly that you're designing a format to be used by all teachers at your new school? Or is it one for you to use yourself?
If you're designing something for people who aren't used to using an imposed planning format, don't under estimate what a culture shock it will be for them!!! I did something similar with Maths plans at my previous school, and learnt that I increased my chances of compliance by insisting on a bare minimum of information on the plan ie learning objective, brief outline of content of main teaching and details of differentiated pupil activities. When I left 18 months later there were still staff who apparently found this too difficult After discussion with the SLT I gave them a format that had boxes for other information (ie key vocabulary, resources, plenary etc) and suggested things that they might find it useful to include. But I didn't get too hung up if these boxes weren't completed. I also found it useful to collect a wide range of formats used in other schools (thank you lovely people on here) and showed those to the SLT as otherwise they wouldn't have believed that it's common practise to include this sort of information on a written plan...
Don't under estimate how persistant you will have to be at following people up and chasing them for copies of their planning too if you want to make use of the planning format happen. My HT only paid lip service to the need for weekly maths plans and so didn't back me up - after 18 months I gave up and got a new job because I couldn't push water uphill single handed any more. I'm sorry if that sounds really negative, but you need to be aware of what you might be up against.
Of course, if you're desiging a format for you to use yourself, you can put whatever you find useful into it! Personally, I think weblinks are great and always put them in. I sometimes even list useful links at the bottom of the plan if they relate to the topic in some way but I'm not quite sure how I'll use them yet.

Thanks for your replies. Yes I think I am going to be in for an uphill slog. What I would like to do is create a planning format for Maths throughout the school. At the moment some years have basic plans, some detailed and some none at all. I asked for all planning to be given in two months ago and am still waiting for some. having met the staff I think that most are prepared to come on board but I do need to make everything straightforward as you say. On the positive side the HT is very supportive.
