maths observations

We've got the maths coordinator observing some time next week but we don't know when they're coming!!!!  Can anybody suggest any great activities which would help with year 2 measures objectives?

measure things using body parts - how many fingers long is a pencil, how many hands long is a table etc.

We did measuring the other week. We measured ourselves using tape measures, and another day, I got some items on the floor and on whiteboards we wrote less than 20cm/more than 20cm, had to list items in right columns by estimating.

We then explored the class for items that would measure over/under 20cm.Then fed back to the group. Looked at metres the previous day, but we are now focusing on accurate measures for cm/mm.

cut card into strips (say 20cm long???) and measure things by how many strips long it is?

Set up a problem to investigate eg do taller children have bigger feet.
In groups, play a game. Each child has 1m long strip of newspaper. Take turns to throw dice, multiply by 10 and cut that many cm off and give to person on right. Continue going round. Winner is person with longest strip at end (can be made up of lots of bits) - makes them measure accurately because they don't want to give too much away.
Weigh packages and work out cost of postage according to weight bands.
Different challenges to do in 1 minute (eg how many times can you write your name)
Child shows a time on clock and mimes something they would do at that time - others work out time and guess what they are doing.
Use measuring to work out some answers to practical questions in classroom eg how much border roll do I need round a display.
Make lifesize pictures of animals based on measurements given to them.

Sorry, can't get on framework so don't know what the objectives are!
