lesson observationsIs there any legal requirement for coordinators to give notice to teachers when they are doing formal observations. One of our coordinators is planning observations next week but is not going to tell us when they're coming. Can they do this?

How unfair! i always arrange a time for n observation; i have to also arrange cover for my class so it needs to be planned. I also agree a focus for the observation! Don't know legal position.

These observations are nothing to do with performance management either. We won't know who's being watched or when for the whole week.

That sounds like a coordinator on a power trip.

For the last couple of years we've had a whole week every term where one of head, deputy or assistant head could turn up to to do an observation at any time during the week - no idea who was coming when and some people got more than one in a day. Not sure if that's still going to happen as well some time this half term.
I thought I'd read something somewhere which said that there should be a minimum period of notice for observations or is that just for performance management?
