Laptop or iPad?We need a new laptop as our current one is dying a slow & painful death. Could we get an iPad instead or do you still need a laptop for general things like planning etc?
Probably a really stupid question! Sorry!

i find typing on an ipad hard work and also an ipad doesnt support flash so many websites wont work and this makes it tricky
Did see today (think an asus) tablet that comes with a keyboard to dock into - a transfomer tablet that looked an interesting bit of kit in between the two

I have a asus (android pad) and find keyboard so handy to use.
I don't tend to use it for planning as our school provides us with laptops. But if you took plannning out of the equation, I love ours.

That's the thing, the iPad looks great but I don't know how practical it would be to use as an everyday computer like we use our laptop.

I really think you NEED BOTH. I am now an iPad addict and use it far more than my laptop. But then again I do need the laptop for the odd thing. I have what I consider to be an amazing cover for my iPad and you can have the iPad at any angle. This makes it easy for typing, for me anyway, I just kind of got used to the keyboard and swapping over.
Using iCloud or similar you can store anything and pick it up elsewhere. I can pick up my skydive on here (iPad) easily and open the files, with the right software.
As for the planning side of things obviously I can't answer that one.
With the office apps, diary, kindle app etc it is soooo much easier to carry around and access.

I was typing that as you guys were talking. If you lived near me I would be more than happy for you to try mine out.
The more you use it, the more you get used to it.
Good for games when you get fed up with the planning and need procrastination techniques.

Having had a different one then getting one like this but slightly cheaper, this is so much the better case IMO. Great for typing whilst semi lying down on the bed. Or on the desk with your daily lesson plan!!

Have had hard time going from word on laptop and pag on iPad with my reports. Some formatting went to pot. Tried Dropbox, but that gave issues too. Think filed is amazing, but still find I need laptop as well. Wish I didn't.

Hi we were thinking along the same lines. We looked at the ASUS one as that is quite smart.
However we were told that an IPAD is not there to replace the IPAD. Good for browsing, games etc but if office work then need a laptop.
We are going to get an ipad and you can get a bluetooth keyboard with it. You cannot get word so you need to download an app called words or something like that that is then compatible.

I had a good play with a friend's ipad when they were visiting recently and although I liked it and they showed me all the apps which it uses instead of word etc, I didn't get on with the touch screen keyboard. As someone who doesn't play games, whilst I think an ipad is great fun, I couldn't see that it would be filling a 'gap' so to speak but instead duplicates some of the things which I can already do with a laptop. Therefore, for us, it is just not worth the expense as I'd still need a laptop or PC to do planning, reports, emails etc and OH's job (systems engineer) is all PC based.
We are thinking about getting some at school but would go for either an android system or maybe the new windows 8 tablets when they come out so they are compatible with our PCs at school (as well as avoiding the premium for the apple styling).
I'm actually coming up for an upgrade on my phone - have had HTC desire for 2 years which has been great - if anyone has any recommendations for a non iphone smartphone?

My OH loves his Galaxy Raspberry cake or something that sounds distinctly edible!
I would love a laptop of my own, but would not say no to an iPAD!

I love my ipad, but use the laptop for major typing jobs - planning, letter writing etc.
