Kenya

For anyone who followed my sad little postings before half term, I wnated to let you know that I went on the exchange to Kenya in spite of the lurgy.  Felt pretty wretched but was determined to get there and it was quite a life changing experience.
Still need to find a little head space to process everything, but saw some indescribable poverty, met some truely insirational people, taught a class of 104 children, realised I could never live in such conditions but recognised how extraordinarily privileged we are in our schools.  I just don't want to take life for granted.  Some people survive and indeed thrive with so little.  It's a cliche but we really do not know we are born!
That said so quickly the frustrations of no network for and ICT lesson, queuing for the photocopier, piles of paperwork etc etc begin to creep in.  As I said I need a bit of headspace to think about what I am to do with all the learning I have done in order to do a bit of good with it.
If anyone else has the opportunity grab it with both hands!

Glad you had a great time. I do think these things do make us realise how lucky we are but also how we do take things for granted. As much as it is great to have all mod cons it is amazing how others don't have these but still can teach and educate children well.

here are some clips of the work we did on the rights of the child which was the focus of the trip.  Very moving.
We will be putting together soem more footage in due course - I'll post it if anyone is interested.  Please feel free to use any of the images if any of you are doing similar work.  I'm going to use the dance for our Remembrance day assembly, there won't be a dry eye  Wink
