Ideas to improve presentation of workHi everyone- hope you're enjoying half-term!
Feel like presentation in our school is an issue and always try to promote handwriting and presentation in my classes. In the past have done Happy Handwriting week (idea from this site and Andrell).
Would like to see how others promote this...
I'm thinking of introducing some sort of points system for this- I am Y3 so thinking of something like:
Finger spaces 2 points
Tall ascenders and CAPITALS 5 points
Joins we've learned 10 points etc
Hope to encourage children to get more points. These points would then equate to team points in class/prizes.
Any other ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks!

My year 4's couldn't sit on the carpet so I do a super sitter each day - they get a house point then go in a draw on Friday for a prize out of my magic box. Could you do something similar?
Like the idea of your points too though?

Thanks brummie- my points idea is a bit similar. Children would earn so many team points from presentation points and if got such a high score it would be a lucky dip in treasure chest!
Really want to give this a big push- moving to much smaller lines in Y3 is proving difficult. I was in Y2 with the kids last yr and they are finding it tricky!

I find " Do it neatly or do it at lunch-your choice." works wonders with my Year 6.

Same here PP. How about showing 'good' presentation from the children in the class. Some will need to see it to know what you mean. Also at teh age they love their work being shown and the teacher being proud of them.
Maybe have an award for 'best presentation of the day'?

oooohhh, could you scan good examples in and show them on the IWB, this fascinates my children.
Oh, and my children have invented a jingle a la Harry Hill: "super sitter of the daaaaaaayyy!"

I was thinking of doing something similar with points as I need capital letters and full stops so was going to give points to punctuation to score pieces of writing. May also include the letter sizes thing as well.
Have you thought about how to keep track of their points so it is manageable? Was also considering buying a set of the bookmarks with spaces to collect stickers or stamps for working towards targets which I thought might keep them focused. I have done that with handwriting before - given a child a handwriting target card and given a sticker for each neat/joined up piece of work. It really worked for the children who were just rushing/being lazy.

I have given targets before- stickers on the front of their books with spaces for ticks and then a special gold stamp I have.
I was thinking about having a table chart with points on so that way when I mark books I can have the chart to hand, will stick a sticker I am going to make for Perfect Presentation points, put the number on the sticker in their book and then record on the chart. Hopefully this will be a short-term intervention unless the kids love it and I have to continue it!
We do regularly scan pieces of work onto the IWB and talk about the importance of presentation in that it is the first judgement a reader makes about your work- I just want to tap into their competitive natures.
We'll see how it goes!
