ICT report help! arghhha folder of word reports which the first few opened off memory stick so easily suddenly pops up with a file conversion box asking me to select encoding and nothing i do will let me open them. any ideas?

Sounds like they have been corrupted somehow. There are some online programmes that may allow you to recover them but not sure which one are any good as its been a long time sincle i had to do that.

cant understand why as first three were fine then others wont open which is pain as another class to try t get theorugh next week arghh

Are you using an older version of word? Could the person who wrote the reports have done the first few on an old version and then done the rest with a newer version of word than you have?

That was my thought too but my laptop just converts automatically.

You can download a patch from microsoft which will allow you to open newer versions of office documents. I only have 2003 but with the patch can open 2010 docs. You can tell which version has been used if you look at the file name. 2010 docs have .docx at the end. Older versions use .doc
