i do not like fireworks  Rolling Eyes
hate the fact that they will be going off all evening!!!!
smallholder

I am so relieved it has been raining here. My thatched roof is nice and wet. I can relax!
kesunder

i am such a baby.....have never liked them, especially the loud noises they make.
Rainbow_Bright

I love fireworks!   Proper shows are the best, though.

Interesting interview on Radio 4 just now about how it's going out of fashion and children today don't even know about the 'lets burn some Catholics' side of it!!
kesunder

it is because i am the ultimate worrier and always worry people will get hurt i think.
saw a big show at the weekend but they were set off at the other side of the valley so weren't too loud and i couldn't see where they were being set off!!!

I don't do big crowds very well. I have very fond memories of small family bonfires and a few fireworks at home.

Rainbow did you ever go to the big Sheffield ones?
Rainbow_Bright

Ah, I love a bit of controlled danger!

Spent New Year with family in Poland a few times, though, and that's just plain scary.   They live in an area which is all blocks of flats, and at the stroke of midnight, the whole area resembles a war zone.   People stand on their balconies and in the areas between the blocks actually holding onto the end of fireworks or at best, holding the bottle they've stuck the lit end in.   It's like each block is firing at the others!!   Looks fab, because the sky is completely filled with fireworks but it's pretty frightening on the ground!!!
kesunder

RB think you have just described one of my nightmares...............
Rainbow_Bright

I used to watch the big ones in Sheffield from my house, SH.   Lived up in Crookes and had a fab view over the city, you see, so we would do sparklers and hotdogs at home and watch the fireworks from there without the need to contend with the crowds.  Very Happy

Initially I lived off the Eccessall (sp?) road and so went to the big one at the park there. Later I lived higher up where Woodseats joined Beauchief and so could see the ones from Graves Park from my window seat.
Rainbow_Bright

I did a TP in school next to Graves Park, SH.  And lived off Ecclesall road for a year or so too (near Hunters Bar).   I'm going to get all nostalgic at this rate and I mustn't, got to think about how happy I'll be in my lovely new house up here instead!   Sheffield does seem to hold happy memories for a lot of people, though, never met anyone who's lived there who doesn't miss it a bit!  Might have to go back for a weekend again soon.
magpie nic

I can see loads of displays from my bedroom window, which is just as well because both little magpies are terrified of them and won't go to displays. I love displays.
Noticed tehre have not been set off earlier this week, usually have them from beginning of October at all hours.
Kesunder, next year I will send you the magpies while I go to a display!

Yes I really enjoyed it when I was younger but by the time we left I was glad to move out of the city back to rural life!

Its so exciting getting a place of your own - I hope you'll be really happy there.
wotton

I don't like fireworks either. I can hear them going off now as I type.
Rainbow_Bright

Thanks, SH.   It's very exciting!   I think one of the reasons we liked the house so much is because it's on a hill with gorgeous views.   I can't wait to get out the back door and onto the hills in the spring and summer evenings.   That and the woodburner Wink   Will have to have a housewarming party on here!  No danger of ruining the carpets, at least!
choccat

I like watching from a distance, two of the choccatlets suffer from asthma and smoke is one of their triggers so tend to stay indoors at this time of the year. I really hate the fact that lots of people round here seem to think it is a good idea to set them off after they get home from the pub which menas constant noise for the next few nights from the time it gets dark unitl about 2 a.m. - very wearing.
greyengine

I miss the smaller bonfire parties we used to have in years gone by.  When I was little the whole family used to come round and we'd have black peas and treacle toffee.
Rainbow_Bright

Toffee apples!
kesunder

that's fine nic! it is a bit of a distant though.........
glad i am not the only one, it has calmed down a bit although it doesn't help that there are big disasters around fireworks happening in the soaps!!

am away on residential in the middle of nowhere this weekend so hopefully will miss the worst of it.
redredrobin

Little robins want to go to a display so I've been trying to find one for the weekend.
They've been asking about why we have bonfire night - it's a story I always find difficult to tell.
jenny_pest

RRR - I agree it was hard to explain really especially to little ones especially as they are so young!

I do love the smell of being around a Bonfire with fireworks going off & being all snuggled up with a hot warm pie stood outside in the fresh air. Hopefully going to one at the weekend but wont be as good as previous ones.
Rainbow_Bright

Fireworks were fab here!   And I've been to netball this evening which was great fun even though I'm pretty rubbish...!
Chilli Queen

I LOVE fireworks - I'm worse than my kids.  I spend the evening running from one window to another in the house trying to see they best fireworks.  OH thinks I am SO sad!!!!! Can't wait until we go to a proper firework display on Saturday.
Rainbow_Bright

Not sad, chilli, fireworks are ace, especially proper ones.   When I was in Stockholm with my Mum a few years ago there was a week of 1hour long firework displays each evening.   Some international firework competition and they were all set to music as well.   We used to get a bottle of fizz and some strawberries and sit out by the waterfront watching them each night!
Chilli Queen

Sounds fantastic - wish I'd been there!
wicked witch

I'm with you Chlli, spend most of the evening dashing from one window to another. I love the colours and sparkle. I'm a sucker for glitter and tinsel at Christmas as well Smile
rubbadubbas

I LOVE Bonfire night!Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I love fireworks, I love burning the Guy on the HUGE bonfire, I love steaming hot tomato soup in polystyrene cups, I love toffee apples, I love getting wrapped up in hats and gloves and I love drawing pictures with sparklers. AHHHHH I just LOVE it!!!! I even like it more than Christmas. Rolling Eyes

We go to a big organised dislay now but what I really love it the small village one that I used to go to as a kid/teenager.

But, I do know animals find it very scary, and I always worry there might be hedgehogs under the bonfire.   Crying or Very sad
