Hoping to study primary teaching

Hi,
I'm currently researching ways to get into primary teaching, is a QTS the same wherever you take the exam in the UK?
What about Edinburgh? Could I gain QTS there and still teach in England?

As far as I know, if you get QTS in Scotland, then it is valid in England and Wales. It's usually done via a degree in teaching or a PGCE course rather than an exam though.

yeah i don't know why i wrote exam!
i'm hoping to study at degree level, but need to redo my science GCSE first. i seem to remember hearing about large bursaries for people studying teaching, is there any truth to this?

I doubt it as there are more teachers than jobs both in Scotland and England.

Shouldn't think about burseries as they get stopped/ changed etc all the time. Scotland seems good though as they find you the first years post so you would get qualified status. Folk here have found it hard to get that job first year after studying.

don't think everyone gets a job in the first year in Scotland. The set up is different in that you apply to LAs, 4 I think, and then they place the best in the schools where there are vacancies unlike in England where you apply to the school direct. The LA way may give you a better chance but you have to go where they send you so you can't pick the "nice " schools.

Thanks for the responses, some good links too. I just need to do my science GCSE (or IGCSE) now, I'll try and get some class room experience while I do that
