Highlander Mountain Marathon

I am really keen to do this next year:

http://www.handsonevents.co.uk/Events/Highlander/Home.htm

Am I just a nutter?
chatty_teacher

Haven't even read it yet, but yes!
rubbadubbas

It sounds amazing!

But yes I think you are! Laughing
Rainbow_Bright

But think of the camping, rubba!   With an on site ceilidh as well Smile
rubbadubbas

Yes that sounds really good. I did read that and think "Ooh it sounds easy!" Ha ha - then I read the rules.  Shocked  Shocked  Shocked  Shocked
rubbadubbas

Have you got a team of people to do it with?
Rainbow_Bright

Just my OH.  We're not that good at going out walking/running with groups - bit antisocial you know Wink
rubbadubbas

It sounds really harsh to me.

But a lot of fun Wink
Rainbow_Bright

I really want a challenge.   We've done a few challenge walks this year but all day walks.   And it's all too easy to be lazy and just waste the weekends sitting at home forgetting that the reason we moved up here was for the fells!

Feel I could do with a target to get me through the winter as well otherwise I suspect I'll just be lazy, eat too much and put on a load of weight again.
rubbadubbas

I suspect I'd be lazy and eat too much even WITH a challenge!
Andrew Jeffrey

Awesome! I am jealous!
Rainbow_Bright

Wow!   Didn't think anyone would be jealous, AJ!  I just thought most people on here tolerated my mad outdoorsy ways!   Very Happy
Andrew Jeffrey

No, thoroughly and genuinely jealous! We did a bit of the Pembrokeshire coastal path last week and it re-awakened something inside me...sounds like a horror film!
Rainbow_Bright

Brilliant!   Teams of 2 - can you not find someone to do it with yourself?  It's in the Easter hols, you know Wink

Think we'll probably go for the C class.
Andrew Jeffrey

I am so busy during term time that I really want to spend as much holiday time with the first Mrs J and the mini-mes, to be honest.

Maybe when the nest is empty...
Rainbow_Bright

Fair enough.   I actually really got into this kind of thing because of OH but funnily enough now, I'm often keener than he is!   No mini-rainbows yet, either, so it's easier.
wotton

go for it RB my OH did a similar event in orienteering but as a relay team but you had some of your team running through the night.
Over40

Very tempting particularly as it's the holidays and I could leave the children at my parents !!!! Maybe however I'll just get used to day challenges again.
tui

It looks really good. Go for it. Especially as your hubby is into it as well.
One day you may come to NZ for the Coast to Coast race.

Looks like a real challenge and can see why it would appeal.  I don't think I'd be up to anything like that without a lot of training beforehand, but can see the draw of really challenging yourself.
Rainbow_Bright

Crikey, tui, that looks REALLY tough!  Would need a lot of practice on my bike and in our boat before that!
titus4t

My husband takes the pictures!  Its a shame the pictures from 2008 are of the server otherwise you'd see the driving snow they had to deal with!  Harsh but loads of fun!
