Help! Non-chron reports for less able.I'm writing non-chronological reports with my class at the moment (Y2), and have a group of L2c children who are finding the whole concept really difficult. My L1 children have been given lots of structure and are talking their work through with an adult, but obviously since this middle group are aiming at L2b they need to be working more independently.
The better half of the class have produced a skeleton plan today and should have enough facts about their chosen topic to write a fairly good report tomorrow. However, the L2c group haven't finished their plans today despite having TA support, and haven't got enough information to write a complete report.
Any suggestions? I'm toying with the idea of just producing a plan for them and getting them to write from that, but don't want to waste the work they have done researching their own choice of topic. Are there any other ways I can support them to be able to write a complete report without having to tell them what to write and without holding up the more able half of the class?

Depends how open ended you allowed them to be. If you gave them an animal to write about then you could model it easier for them so they could copy the groupings from you. I would give them half a plan and ask them to complete the plan if it is possible to do that.
You could get the more able group to talk to the less able and to think of sections they would be able to write? Or is that not possible?
