Grrr literacy consultant!

Have been provided with support from the LEA but the 'consultant' wants me to plan everything for her!!!! I have provided her with a gap analysis, up to date assessments, a predicted combined assessments and a detailed breakdown of the areas the selected children that need to work on has been e mailed . She has just e maile to say that she need splanning a week in advance for her coming in!!!!!!!!! What is she paid to do??? She already said that she has been told that she should run intervention gropus as opposed to team teaching so why oh why should I plan more lessons fr her?? Anyone give me any advice on what I should do before I e mail her back with a rude message???? The children need to work on narrative, sentence composition, VCOP. How do I put this in a better way?? Very angry.

Have you had any initial reports back from the consultant? After every visit I have to send a report. At the end of it is a section where I have to write about what needs to be done before my next visit. Usually there are things I have said I will do and things that the school have agreed to do. Could you ask for a meeting with the consultant - say you are unclear how the support is going to work and how it will "raise capacity" in the school if the consultant is working separately to the teachers. At the meeting you could talk about how you feel about things so far - the consultant needs you to be on her side if her work is to have any impact so you are in a strong position.

I would say, "Can you help me plan, as this is a problem in my school, and I need you to show me how to do it better."  (do this with a smile, but with an image in your mind of a voodoo doll).

I would consult with your HT about how they want you to respond.
