Christmas productionI know this seems early but we've only 5 weeks after we go back until the performance! Can anyone recommend a good story which would include all the children in reception, year 1 and 2. I'm thinking along the lines of something based loosely around the Christmas story with year 2 taking the speaking parts but the other classes coming on and doing a song or something at various points in the story. The problem is keeping the parts for the younger classes simple enough in terms of costumes as we don't have enough to have a whole class of shepherds or angels etc.

My children's school did "The Nativity" from out of the ark last year. It had a really simple script so none of the children had too many lines to learn. Y2 did all the speaking parts. Y1 were either flames or shepherds - very easy costumes and Rec were stars (wore pillowcases or white t-shirts and a headband with a star on). I would have used it if I was still in KS1 this year.

In the past, we've had children just wear red or green t-shirts when short of actual costumes. It looks quite effective and very festive.

My daughters infant school have always done a 'Christmas Story' incorporating each class with Year 2's being the 'narrators' and 'angels'! The story has always included different parts of the world but with the traditional Christmas story as its base. I can't remember them all, but I think one of them was called 'The Star that Fell to Earth' - if that's any help?

We always buy one, usually an Out of the ark one which comes with a CD. We have Y1 and 2 together and foundation do their own. The Y2 children do all the acting and narration and the Y1 children join in with the songs and some have instruments. They all dress up but for some it's just a tinsel headdress thing.

I can recommend 'A wriggly nativity' by Starshine Music. If you order it it comes very quickly!
