Cheap student meals

Can anyone share any simple, cheap recipes that I can teach Gorgeous 2 to cook over the summer?  He has been in catered halls this year, but will be sharing a house next year so I need to be able to show him some really easy and very cheap things to make.

PS - his culinary skills amount to beans on toast and heating stuff in microwave!!!

spaghetti carbonara

spaghetti
single cream with egg (1 egg per 100ml of single cream)
ham
mushrooms
parmesan cheese/whatever cheese
onion

1.  Fry up onion, ham and mushroom gently (spaghetti cooking at the same time).

2.  Turn heat right down to low and add the cream and egg.  Stir continuously.  Add the cheese.  It should start to thicken.

3.  Season and serve with spaghetti.

Dead simple!

pasta and tinned chopped tomatoes. Then you can add whatever. We have it with tuna and sometimes sweetcorn.

I have a recipe for baked bean lasagne will look it out for you after York.

The basics stuff from the likes of sainsbury's and Asda is fine.
They do jars of curry sauce for about 26p and also a sweet and sour sauce.
I chuck leftovers into a jar of curry sauce.

Stir fry a couple of carrots and an onion and maybe mushrooms or cauli or whatever you have lurking. cook some noodles and add to stir fry with soy sauce. Can do this with rice as well.

This website is based in New Zealand but the recipes are good. I have 2 of the cookbooks. Well my daughter swiped one of them! She offers advice on how to shop wisely.
you have to log in to see the recipes but it is free.

My OH survived on pizza muffins when he was living alone before he met me.  Split a muffin in two, spread tomato paste or passata over both halves, grate some cheese over and slice on whatever topping you like: mushrooms, sliced onions, pepperoni etc.
Easy enough for even the culinary challenged to cope with!
