best children film adaptions of favourite books.There have been some terrible ones. Particularly when they try to make a full length movies from a picture book.
I am looking forward to seeing the new Where the Wild things Are.
I loved the Secret Garden for the scenery and the house. Not having seen large country houses it is hard to imagine them. It may be different for you.
I like Harry Potter and the Philosphers Stone for the same reason. Hogwarts castle, quidditch and Diagon alley are fabulous. i haven't seen the other HP movies but as the books got thicker i imagine it would be harder to fit everything into a movie.
i thought Holes was really well done and stuck quite closely to the book plot.
Babe was really well done as well I think.

i haven't seem either of those. i must have a read of Twilight.
I liked Charlie and the Chocolate factory with Gene Wilder. much as I like Johnny Depp, I don't think the film was as good as the earlier one.

Saw the trailer for Fantastic Mr Fox yesterday & I was very disappointed. It's been filmed in a funny style of graphics and doesn't seem to stick to the story.

I'd read Holes with my Year 6 class just before it was on last Easter and all of the children agreed that it was a really honest adaptation of the book. We had also read Skellig before watching it on Sky, and this was a rubbish adaptation - and again, my analytic year 6's agreed. I thought it was great that they'd read the book and created their own images and were then able to respond to a film version - so many of them "say" they've read the book when really they've seen the film which misses out half of the important stuff.
Have to admit don't like Harry Potter books or films - got bored with them, but the same year 6's made me read and watch Twilight, books and the first film really really good, and also (!) Angus, Thongs and perfect (or full frontal in the case of the book) snogging. This was mildly entertaining in a grown up Jaqueline Wilson kind of way!
Also, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - some of my more able Year 6's had read the book, so I did and then I watched the film - this was another great adaptation in my view - although perhaps not quite a "childrens'" book.

I don't dare watch the film of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. The book made me feel ill and as I know the ending I don't think my emotions would cope!

I've not seen the Johnny Depp Charlie and the choc factory but I've heard from friends that it's a lot more adult than the old version and actually a lot truer to the books. Might have to watch it one day.

Sniggle, the ending isn't as bad in the film as in the book - the same thing happens but I didn't find it as harrowing.

I think maybe so, yes, I was just bereft at the book and couldn't sleep - it really disturbed me, but the film didn't have that effect.
