Bats in the Library

I am always tellihg myself I will not keep buying kids books especially if they are full price but I love looking at them.

Today I bought a book I just couldn't resist.  Bats in the Library by Brian Lies.

the librarian leaves the library window open so the bats all fly in and take over for the night. Theyplay with the photocopier (taking copies of themselves) make shadows with the ohp and watch upside down books being read while they hang upside down etc.

The little bats start to imagine themselves in the stories so there are several double spread pages showing bats as main characters of the hobbit, alice in wonderland, little red riding hood, make way for ducklings, etc.

So the illustrations give adults a bit of a laugh and i am sure children will enjoy it at face value. The illustrations are lovely as well, very detailed and realistic.

Lovely book.

That sounds like a great book Tui- will put it on my wish list!

my class absolutely loved it and it generated  much discussion from my 5 year old class. i am now digging out all my bat books for them.  So many questions. Some didn't believe they were real creatures. They had seen them on videos but I think they thought they were made up. I told them there were bats round where they live! That really got them going. Our local bats are smaller then the ones in the book but still exciting for them to discover this.   Very Happy

I love bats too. I love to see them flying round the smallholding on a summers evening. The book sounds great for younger children , although I think the illustrations might be a bit too young for mine. What do you think?

They might enjoy spot the book characters and the bats photocopying themselves! The text is for young children though.

Yes I thought that would be the case. Its really hard to find the right sort of books for the kids I teach. I often end up writing my own.

That's great you have time to do so. I would love to write more. I make upo stories with photos from my class.

That sounds like a delightful book. I shall look out for it.
