saw this- Etsy crafter junkshop is hosting a neat little contest called Rhonda's Recycled Craft Challenge. The idea is really simple, but clever, and encourages recycling, creativity, and making do with what you have. Anyone can register by purchasing a challenge packet (for just the 20 cent cost of the listing fee) by June 1st. On June 2nd, they mail out a packet to each person who is registered. All packets will have identical contents, consisting of an assortment of items saved from the landfill, as well as the rules for the challenge. Photos of completed entries should be posted to the Rhonda's Recycled Craft Challenge Flickr group by July 15. The winning entry gets a $20 gift certificate to their Etsy shop.
And it made me think for an eco week would be good as well as making somethings in class to encourage home involvement maybe set something like this. Would probably be easier if we just picked a regular object and asked them to bring in something they had made from it rather than sending stuff out.
So question really is what would be best object that most people are likely to easily have to hand without saving for weeks which could be simply created into the widest variety of things?
First things i thought of were
1) toilet roll middle (but some people are funny about these)
2) food tin (but some are still quite sharp at top)
Any better ideas |

It depends how little notice burt I would have thought any of the items suggested by Wotton - if my children came home and wanted any of them then we would be likely to have an empty juice/milk bottle in a couple of days. Cereal box contents can be decanted into other containers (empty ice cream tubs) if necessary.
I had a good response when I asked for plastic bottles (2l ones - lemonade type) |

| And thats sort of how i was thinking but then have to try and think like one of our parents and that isnt quite the same!! Not many would put themselves out so its about what kids can easily get hold of and suspect if say any plastic bottle will be most likely to obtain |
