Hi there everyone
I know this is a very premature message and I should be more concerned with finishing university and graduating but I cannot help but wonder. You are all such knowledgeable people in the world of teaching that I am quite sure you will be able to give me some tips. I am already a mature student and would really like to be able to become an NQT teacher next year if that oppurtunity is possible. However, I would like to prepare my CV in the best possible way now to make myself more employable. You have went through the interview process so perhaps know more what schools are looking for. I am currently doing a British Sign Language Course (my subject is SEN and I would like to eventually go onto being a SEN teacher). I would also like to take up a First Aid Course but am unsure which one I should consider doing which would be of most benefit to working with children. I thank you lots for your time in helping me with this. I hope your week is going well and that you all had a nice break for half term. Good luck with the countdown to Christmas.

Firstly, welcome to the forum and well done on posting your first posts.
I am an NQT this year and would encourage you to apply for all the local authority education pools that you can once they open anytime from December onwards in some LA's. You should think about what age you want to teach first and were your strenghs lie - a CV is not generally used in your application, it is a specific application form usially where you have to add all your infomation in and a supporting statement where you can state your strenghs and skills. BSL is a good start to a course and shows you are willing to take on the aspect of Inclusive teaching- If you are thinking of going into the EYFS - you will need to get the Paediatric First Aid course under your belt - usually the school would provide this but if you are already have this at interview stage- this is an extra string to your bow.
The key at the moemnt is to finish your degree and do the best you can, keep your eye on the job market for where you want to apply - how their applications for NQT's work and ask your university tutors what support they will have in place to help you gain your first post.
Gain as much experience as you can in a range of settings if possible and stay postive - it is a hard year ahead of you in your final University year and a lot will change between now and next year. Good Luck with anything and if you want anymore info or advice you can send me a PM.
Good luck |
