How much have other NQTs planned so far? I have only looked at the medium term numeracy, literacy and science, but have not filled out the school grids yet. Feel as though I should be more organised by now.

I wouldn't do more than your first few lessons for each subject as until you know the children it's hard to plan properly - sned some time getting together resources that you can easily use within your plans rather than doing detailed plans.

What year are you going to be in?  How much planning do you have to do?  I generally work off my MTPs!

Don't feel that you have to do really detailed individual lesson plans now you are an NQT as there's just no way you'll keep it up (and it's not really necessary). I would make sure you've got your first two weeks sorted in MTPs + Lit and Num when you start back and have a general overview of what you are doing when over the term.

And if you really want to do something else, how about a few "up your sleeve" activities - things you can use in those unexpected slots that crop up when the timetable changes for some reason.  Or maybe that's just my school...  A few games like heads down, thumbs up or fizzbuzz and a few challenges you can put on the whiteboard - how many words can you make from .....  List as many things as you can that are orange.  I seem to remember there's some stuff in the TES resource bank that I adapted when I first started - possible under early morning activities?  There's definitely a good VCOP powerpoint there.

Thank you everyone for replying. MTPs are in place so your advice is reassuring.

Knightrider, have just googled  fizzbuzz so thanks for that.

Just keeping everything crossed for the first week now!

I'm in Foundation so different to you, don't worry though I have done my MTP and the first week and a half worth of plans but thats because it's all play based so doesn't really concern paperwork, getting to know you things etc....

As long as you have a good idea of what you are doing, whats coming up and where to pitch things once you have a good knowledge of your children you will be fine. Good advice about the games. Also have you got activitites for the children planned, which give them control and leadership of ther classroom? e.g Display stuff, making their own tray labels or coat peg signs?

Good luck.

Hiya, hope you haven;t done too much. Last year, for NQT year, I had planned 2 weeks of maths to get ahead, and ended up scrapping it as realised was too hard for the chn as had lower set. I think that as long as you have your mtps in place, you know what you are doing.

The first few weeks will be getting into it and finding your feet, so don;t worry. Also, if something crops up in a week and you have to miss something, don;t worry. This was one of the biggest things for me last year at first - worried so much where would fit in, but you do.
