I didn't realise that I could claim relief on a proportion of my subscription.  Do I need to contact my tax office and ask for a form?

Thanks

Very Happy

Your union should have details of how to do this on their site, I know that my union ATL does.

be warned that once you have asked to fill in a tax return, you may well find that they are sent to you annually for a number of years.  This happened to my OH.
Tax returns have to be completed by a certain date - the ones they send - or you can be fined, which places a stressful burden on you.  It might not be too much hassle if you only have one source of income, but if you have shares, for example, you will need to be able to access your tax vouchers and so on.  For this reason, my OH has decided that it would be best for me not to claim back the tax - saying that it would not be worth the stress.

That's true wotsit and something to bear in mind. A few years ago, I decided to come clean about my occasional royalties ( which I might add don't come to much , but it caused me guilt!) Anyway they sent me backdated tax forms for several years that I had to complete. For a number of years follwing that I had to do full tax forms, but it recent years it is just a shortened one page thing for other earnings and claims like union expenses.
